NFL player JJ Watt, the Arizona Cardinals defensive end, has announced the arrival of his first child! JJ and his wife, professional soccer player Kealia Ohai, welcomed their little one on October 23rd.

“Love and happiness have reached heights we never even knew existed,” JJ wrote in a joint post with Kealia. The announcement was paired with a picture of the couple holding their newborn in the hospital. It’s a boy! JJ and Kealia chose to name their son Koa James Watt. Koa’s first name honors Kealia’s heritage as it is a Hawaiian name that means warrior and brave one. Koa shares a middle name with his father, as JJ stands for Justin James.

The couple revealed in June that they were expecting a baby together. At the time, the football player shared that he “could not be more excited.” JJ was introduced to Kealia by his former Houston Texans teammate Brian Cushing, who is married to Kealia’s sister Megan. JJ and Kealia privately dated for a year before they officially made their relationship public in 2017.

The couple announced in May 2019 that they were engaged. JJ married the Chicago Red Stars forward on Valentine’s Day in 2020 in the Bahamas at The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort with a romantic ceremony. In honor of their two-year wedding anniversary this past February, JJ shared a picture of himself and Kealia in an elevator. He quipped that an elevator selfie had become an unspoken tradition every time the couple was dressed up for an event. On his marriage, he wrote, “Through 2 years of marriage, many memories have already been created, with so many more on the horizon.”

Congratulations to JJ and Kealia on the arrival of their first child! We wish them lots of love as they embark on their new journey as parents.
