Sources have confirmed that the actors Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have welcomed their first child into the world!
The Oscar award-winning actor and his fiancée are the proud parents of a baby boy and they’ve have chosen the perfect name for their first son. They’ve named him River, a name that pays homage to Joaquin’s late brother and fellow actor and musician River Phoenix. River passed away in 1993 from a drug overdose.
The news was revealed by Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky, who Phoenix worked with on the dialogue-free documentary Gunda. He confirmed the name of Joaquin and Rooney’s baby during an appearance at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival.
Neither Joaquin nor Rooney is active on social media. News of their pregnancy was revealed in May of this year.
The couple is notorious for shying away from the public eye. They met on the set of the 2013 Spike Jonze film Her but did not begin dating until they reunited in 2018 on the set of the film Mary Magdalene. In the film, Rooney played the role of Mary Magdalene and Joaquin was cast in the role of Jesus.
Reportedly, Joaquin and Rooney became engaged in July of 2019. The Oscar-nominated actress was spotted numerous times wearing an engagement ring. Congratulations to Joaquin and Rooney! We wish them all the best as they settle into their role as new parents to their son River.
