In October, actress Mindy Kaling surprised everyone when she announced she welcomed her second child into the world. She managed to keep her pregnancy a secret! Of course, amidst a pandemic, it wasn’t too difficult, as Mindy shared at the time.
Mindy shared the news during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The comedy writer told Stephen that she had welcomed a baby boy named Spencer on September 3rd.
Mindy is very private with her children. She has never shown Spencer’s nor her daughter Katherine’s face on her social media platforms. The Mindy Project star has also kept the paternity of her children a secret. Any details she shares about her children are always exciting. Now she’s shared her son’s middle name and it’s a nod to her Indian heritage.
This month, Mindy graces the cover of Vogue India magazine. In the comments section of the social media post, Mindy was asked about her children’s names. “Not my business but do your children have Indian middle names? You are proud of your culture and I was wondering why the kids have very Caucasian names. 💙” The producer replied to the fan saying, “They do! Swati and Avu!”
Very active in the comments section, Mindy shared that her daughter Katherine, who also goes by Kit, has the middle name Swati in honor of Mindy’s late mother. “It’s my mom’s name. It’s gorgeous and meaningful.” Spencer’s middle name, Avu, means “Gift of God” and is also the name of Mindy’s father.
