Earlier this year, celebrity couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra welcomed their first child together via surrogate. Their daughter, Malti Marie, arrived on January 15th. In wake of the recent mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, TX, Nick is opening up about how fatherhood has changed him.

The singer revealed that since becoming a dad “everything” hits harder. “The weight of everything is much more intense. I think it’s now about trying to be as present as possible and as thoughtful as you can be for your family, but also for other people’s journeys. I’m so grateful for [Malti Marie] and the wonderful perspective of being a parent.”

The Jonas Brothers band member is “hoping for change to happen” following the Uvalde shooting. “As a father, as an uncle, I can’t not think about the kids and all the lives that were lost. I’m hoping for change to happen and we’ll see the end of this.”

Nick and Priyanka only just recently welcomed their daughter Malti home. On Mother’s Day, the couple revealed that Malti spent “100 plus days in the NICU.” Nick and Priyanka reflected on their first few months as parents writing jointly, “We can’t help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we’ve been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced. Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is. We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home. Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it M! Mommy and Daddy love you.”

The couple had revealed in January that they welcomed a baby with a text-based image on Instagram. They had not previously shared that they were expecting a baby.

Congratulations again to Nick and Priyanka on welcoming Malti into the world! We hope they are enjoying their new role as parents.
