Chinese Baby Names

Chinese names usually consist of one or two characters. Unlike Western naming, given names (first names) are written after the surname. In China, it can be considered disrespectful to name a baby after an older relative and bad luck to name their children after celebrities or historical figures. Chinese children and adults usually have many names based on the situation, such as a name they usually socially, at school, a Western name, or a married name. Chinese words are made up of Chinese syllables, and the same syllable can often be used for given names and surnames. Most names in China are gender-neutral although in the West, they may be more associated more commonly with one gender.
