Congratulations to actress Kate Hudson and her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa, who welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on October 2.
The couple chose a rather unique name for their new addition… and one with a very special meaning to them.
Kate made the announcement on Instagram, with a series of images titled “She’s here,” and plenty of details about their daughter’s name and why they chose it.
They named her Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, as Kate explained: “We have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa. Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor.”
She added: “Everyone is doing well and happy as can be. Our family thanks you for all the love and blessings that have been sent our way and we send ours right back.”
Rani is Hebrew in origin, meaning “joyous song.”
During a recent interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kate was asked about whether or not they had decided on a name. “We have a couple of them and we’re going to decide when the day comes,” Kate said.
Kate is mom to sons Bingham and Ryder.
