Ahead of pop star Britney Spears’ upcoming memoir – set to be released on October 24 – passages from the book have been shared. One difficult experience the “Everytime” singer has held close to the vest occurred during her relationship with Justin Timberlake, formerly of the boy band NSYNC, between 1999 and 2002. Britney revealed that the couple got pregnant but ultimately decided to terminate the pregnancy.
In an exclusive story, PEOPLE revealed passages from “The Woman In Me” that detailed Britney’s pregnancy. “[The pregnancy] was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
Britney went on to discuss her abortion in her book, which is being released by Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, sharing, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father. To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.” As of yet, Justin has not spoken publicly about Britney’s reveal.
Following their breakup, both Britney and Justin went on to have children with other people. Britney shares two sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean Preston and Jayden James. Last year, Britney and her then-husband Sam Asghari revealed they were pregnant, but shared one month later that they sadly lost their baby. Justin also has two sons named Silas and Phineas, whom he shares with his wife Jessica Biel.
