WNBA star Brittney Griner has officially entered parenthood! The Phoenix Mercury player and her wife Cherelle revealed they have welcomed their first baby together. The athlete opened up about becoming a parent in an interview ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Brittney and Cherelle are the proud parents of a baby boy! The couple named their son Bash Raymond and revealed he was born on July 8th and weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces at birth. Of her son, Brittney shared, “That’s my man. He is amazing. They said as soon as you see them, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window. That’s literally what happened.”

The WNBA player is set to represent Team USA at the Olympics in Paris, which will be her third time being on the team. On having to leave her newborn so soon, Brittney shared, “It kind of sucks because I have to leave, but at the same time, he will understand.” Luckily, she has plenty of photos saved to scroll through while overseas. “”My whole phone has turned into him now.” Her trip to Paris marks the first time the athlete has traveled outside the United States after being detained in Russia for possession of cannabis oil. While she was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison, she only served 10 months of her sentences before returning to the states in December 2022.

Before officially sharing that her wife had given birth to the couple’s baby, Brittney revealed what her newborn will call her. In the interview, anchor Terrika Forster-Brasby commented, “You’re about to be a mom!” The WNBA star playfully corrected the anchor saying, “Pops!” The “Coming Home” author and Cherelle, who tied the knot in June 2019, announced they were growing their family this past April.

Congratulations to Brittney and Cherelle on the arrival of their baby boy!
