Seth Meyers took used his monologue on his show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, to discuss his newborn son’s unexpected arrival on Easter Sunday. The new father announced the baby’s arrival on Tuesday, explaining that Monday night’s show had to be cancelled because his wife, Alexi, had given birth to their son, Ashe Olsen Meyers.
Meyers shared all of the details of his son’s birth during his Tuesday night taping. “We named our son Ashe, which is my wife’s maiden name…I can’t think of a better way to honor what she did,” he said. “The middle name is Olsen, which is my mother’s maiden name,” he became emotional as he continued, “To be able to name him after those two women…”
The comedian and his wife, Alexi, were caught by surprise as they were not expecting her to deliver for another two weeks and, according to Meyers, she nearly gave birth in the Uber that drove them to the hospital. He told the audience, “My wife was on her knees in the backseat holding on to me…and she was just screaming out an open window. Screaming…And only in New York City could you drive that way and not have people say, “that woman’s getting abducted.” The former SNL star said that he broke down into tears and laughter when their son was born, saying ‘I couldn’t stop laughing for two reasons…half the people in the room had bunny ears on… [and] I couldn’t help but think, ‘who could be ready for this?'”
Seth and Alexi dated for five years before marrying on September 1, 2013 in Martha’s Vineyard.
