As promised, here is part two of our “Laugh out Loud Children’s Books” roundup. For this second selection of giggle inducing material, I must warn you – some potty humor lies ahead. Whether it is talking about using the bathroom, or laughing at the word “butt,” some kids just cannot get enough. To encourage a love of reading in children, I believe in meeting them right where they are. And if it is potty humor that makes them want to read a book over (and over) again, these books will be a surefire hit.
I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! Written by Karen Beaumont and illustrated by David Catrow.
A mischievous child gets caught painting their house every color of the rainbow. A displeased mother lectures, “Ya ain’t a-gonna paint no more!” But this little artist won’t be stopped once they find some red and decide to paint their head! On the book goes with clever rhymes leading to each blank palette left on the body, until the clever conclusion explodes in a cacophony of color. “I’m such a nut, gonna paint my –” “What?!” I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! is sure to be quoted in your home with gleeful abandon if your little readers are anything like mine.
I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! is published by HMH Books for Young Readers and recommended for Preschool to 3rd grade.
Who Wet My Pants? Written by Bob Shea and illustrated by Zachariah Ohora.
When Reuben meets his friends at their campsite, he can’t believe it – his pants are wet! Which one of his friends wet his pants?!? Each friend reacts to his uncomfortable situation with empathy and acceptance, but Reuben is certain one of them is responsible. After all, he just drank a gallon of lemonade, hiked to a waterfall, and fell asleep with his hand in the fish tank. If his pants were never out of his sight, clearly it was one of his friends that wet them! Little kids will laugh along at the potty themed humor as well as Reuben’s steadfast demands that someone or something else is to blame.
Who Wet My Pants is published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and recommended for Preschool to 3rd grade.
The Dinosaur Who Pooped a Planet, written by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter and illustrated by Garry Parsons.
For the ultimate in gross out humor, authors Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter have you covered. Little Danny takes his dinosaur on a field trip to space but forgets to pack his lunch box. What does a hungry dinosaur eat in space? Everything in sight, including their ride home! What can a dinosaur do – but make a big poo? This is only one in a series of The Dinosaur That books, each focused on the digestive habits of a very hungry dinosaur. Kids who love gross out humor will be delighted by this material, and may be inspired to read it over and over again.
The Dinosaur Who Pooped a Planet is published by Aladdin and recommended for Preschool to 3rd grade.
