Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel welcomed their second child on Wednesday, March 2, in Stockholm. Per royal protocol, the King announced the name of the new Prince at the Council of State. The official announcement stated, “The Prince will be called Oscar Carl Olof, and will be known as Oscar. The Prince will be assigned the Duchy of Skåne.”
On Thursday, March 3, the royal family attended the traditional te deum Thanksgiving service in the Royal Palace’s Royal Chapel in recognition of the birth.
The Crown Princes and Prince Daniel had kept their baby’s gender a secret and were delighted to welcome a healthy son. Prince Oscar weighed 8 lbs. and measured 20 inches at birth. He is third in line to the throne behind his mother and older sister, Princess Estelle, 4.
