In March, Hilaria Baldwin, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, announced that the couple was growing their family by one more! This new baby would be the couple’s 7th child together. Today, Hilaria shared a poignant video featuring her family to announce her new baby’s gender.

The video began with Alec sharing, “One characteristic doesn’t define you.” Then, each member of the family (with the exception of the couple’s youngest children) discussed the value of independence, free from labels meant to define us in society. Hilaria began the caption of the video by writing, “It’s always been both fun and meaningful for me to find out what is the sex of my baby, yet, as I grow and learn, I want to do it a bit differently this time around.”

The message of the video encompassed the idea that this child’s gender is not their only characteristic. But, at the end of the video, Hilaria revealed that baby number 7 will be a girl. To continue the message about her daughter’s identity, Hilaria wondered, “What will make our baby a loving, whole person? What matters? What will make them feel seen, free, and proud? Perhaps nothing that we can define. We can only guide, encourage their spirit, listen, share our experiences, and learn from them, as we watch their own journey. We can provide as good a life as we can, but the rest is up to our baby to discover their own, unique self.”

She ended her post with a message to her followers. “I share with you our family’s hopes and wishes, encouragement and advice for our new baby. I feel so much joy, watching these children, who are filled with love and the most simple, kind wisdom. Hearing them share their words is one of my greatest gifts in life. Join us in honoring this whole little independent human, growing inside of me.”

Congratulations again to Alec and Hilaria on growing their family! We wish them lots of love as they prepare to welcome their daughter into the world this fall.
