British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie Symonds welcomed their second child together just one week ago. Now, the couple has shared the first image of their newborn along with the name they chose.

Carrie shared the news on her private Instagram page. The couple has welcomed a baby girl! Their daughter was born on December 9th at 9:02 AM. The couple has chosen to name her Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson. Each of Romy’s names has a significant meaning, as Carrie outlined in her announcement. “Romy, after my aunt Rosemary. Iris from the Greek, meaning rainbow. Charlotte after Boris’ late mum whom we miss so much.”

Boris and Carrie welcomed their first child together in April 2020, a son named Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson. Wilfred’s name had significant meaning as well. His first two names honor both Boris’s and Carrie’s grandfathers: Wilfred for Boris’s grandfather and Lawrie for Carrie’s grandfather. The name Nicholas comes from two doctors who worked to save Boris’s life while he battled COVID-19 in 2020: Dr. Nick Price and Dr. Nick Hart. Carrie mentioned in her post how Wilfred is doing adjusting to becoming a big brother. “Wilf has been stroking Romy’s hair, giving big kisses and playing with his matchbox cars right next to her crib, just in case she feels like joining in too.”

Romy is Boris’ sixth child. In addition to Wilfred, the Prime Minister has four adult children that he shares with his ex-wife Marina Wheeler, a barrister: two daughters, Lara Lettice and Cassie Peaches, and two sons, Milo Arthur and Theodore Apollo. There has been speculation that Boris has one other child, a daughter named Stephanie who is reportedly the result of an affair he had with art consultant Helen Macintyre. However, Boris has denied this claim.

Congratulations to Boris and Carrie on the arrival of Romy! We wish them lots of love as they embrace life with a new member of their family.
