Reality star Colton Underwood is going to be a dad! The former Bachelor star announced that he and his husband Jordan C Brown are expecting their first baby together. “Coming this fall.”
In an exclusive interview with Men’s Health, Colton announced his exciting family news and opened up about his journey to fatherhood. When the Coming Out Colton star and his husband began the fertility process, they were shocked to learn that Colton had an extremely low sperm count. “I had four,” Colton recalled. “Four sperm. And three of them are dead. Word for word, what the doctor said, he goes, ‘Uh, I can maybe make this one work.’ This one?!” The reason for his low sperm count was due to his exercise routine coupled with his recovery routine that included excessive heat exposure from warm baths, saunas, and sitting in a hot tub. Taking testosterone also impacted his sperm count, so to combat it, Colton went through what he called “sperm rehab.”
When Colton got his sperm count back up six months later, the couple began the process of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and found an egg donor and surrogate. Three embryos were fertilized and the healthiest one was chosen for transfer. During the transfer, the couple chose to engage in “sexy time” at home. The reality star explained, “We just thought that, as the transfer is happening, it’s really important that we feel a part of it somehow because we’re building our family in love.”
Less than two weeks later, Colton and Jordan, a political strategist, learned the transfer worked! The couple is expecting a baby boy, due in October. While they don’t know whose sperm was used for the embryo, they believe they’ll be able to tell. Colton and Jordan, who recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary, does plan to have two children and whoever’s sperm wasn’t used for their first baby will be used for the second.
Congratulations to Colton and Jordan on the news of their baby boy! We wish them lots of love as they prepare for their son’s arrival.
