Professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo welcomed a baby girl into the world last month. The announcement of her arrival came with devastating news, as Cristiano and his partner Georgina Rodriguez had been expecting twins, but one of the twins sadly passed away. Yesterday, Georgina revealed the name the couple chose for their daughter.

Georgina shared three images of her daughter and revealed she was born on April 18th. The couple named her Bella Esmeralda. Bella is an Italian name that means “Beautiful” and “God Is My Oath.” Esmerlada is a Greek name that means “Emerald” and in her caption, Georgina even included a green heart emoji next to Bella’s name.

On April 18th, the couple shared the loss of their son writing, “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy during this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

A few days later, the couple shared an image of their family to honor both Georgina and Bella being home. “Home sweet home. Gio and our baby girl are finally together with us.” The couple was surrounded in the image by their newborn and four children, son Cristiano and Mateo, and daughters Eva and Alana. They thanked their fans and loved ones for their support during their loss writing, “We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures. Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family. Now it’s time to be grateful for the life that we’ve just welcomed into this world.”

Congratulations to Cristiano and Georgina on the arrival of baby Bella and our deepest condolences on the loss of their son.
