Actor Donald Glover, who is also a musician who performs under the name Childish Gambino, has shared that he welcomed a child during the pandemic.

The Atlanta star is known for being very private with his personal life. In an interview with I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel for GQ magazine, Donald casually mentioned that he welcomed a son. “You know, I had [a kid] during the coronavirus.”

The rapper went on to discuss what it was like to bring his son into the world not only during the pandemic but during our country’s civil unrest. “I was in the hospital bed. My son had just been born, like, an hour before and I was watching the George Floyd video. It was such a weird moment. It was such an intense, weird moment, because I’m watching that video and it’s like eight minutes long, so you’re sitting there and I had just had this amazing, joyful, expanding moment. I don’t even know what, really, the word is to describe it. It was just expanding: the empathy and compassion and the terror and the joy of it.”

He went on to share that “my dad had passed away recently, so [my son] was named after my father.” Donald was actually named after his father, who passed away in December 2018, as well. So now the actor is carrying on the family name to his new son, Donald.

Donald III is the Emmy-winning actor’s third child with his longtime partner Michelle White. Donald and Michelle share two older sons, Legend, 4, and Drake, 2.

Congratulations to Donald and Michelle on the arrival of their third son! We wish them lots of love during this exciting time.
