Professional dancers Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have announced exciting news for their family. The Dancing with the Stars couple is expecting their second child together! “It brings me immense joy to finally announce that Maks and I are expecting our Chmerkovskiy #2.”
The couple announced the news exclusively with PEOPLE and shared that Peta is 18 weeks along in her pregnancy. The news comes over six months since the couple revealed they had suffered three miscarriages and have faced a difficult fertility journey as they tried to grow their family. Peta and Maks welcomed their first child, a son named Shai Aleksander, in January 2017. Peta and Maks will be welcoming their little one in June and, while they know the sex, they may not announce it before their baby’s arrival.
During her interview with PEOPLE, Peta shared that she conceived “all natural,” and went on to share how she learned she was expecting. “I didn’t even know I was pregnant for so long until I was really feeling sick. I danced through Dancing with the Stars with it. I started feeling weird, started feeling a little bit sick and a little bloated and I didn’t want to test for weeks.” She learned she was pregnant around the six week mark and shared, “I think it was the fastest positive I’ve ever seen in my life. It just came up super quick and I was just shocked.”
Peta has suffered three miscarriages in the past, the first one in 2020. She experienced her last miscarriage before she even knew she was pregnant. “I ultimately had no idea [I was pregnant],” Peta recalled after entering the hospital following a health scare, “which in hindsight was better for my recovery because I didn’t have that super joyous moment of, ‘I’m pregnant again!’ I just had the moment of, ‘You lost it.'” The dancer has been open about her fertility journey with her followers and thanked them for their support over the years in her announcement post. “I want to thank ALL OF YOU who’ve been on this fertility journey with me from the beginning. It feels like I’m sharing this news with my extended family. Thank you for sharing your stories and tips to get me through my IVF cycle and thank you for the plethora of encouraging comments and DM’s …I read them all.”
