Last October, model Iskra Lawrence gave birth to her second baby, a girl, with her partner Philip Payne. At the time, she didn’t share her daughter’s name and waited nearly five months for the reveal. In an Instagram post, the model revealed her daughter’s moniker and the inspiration and meaning behind her choice.
The Aerie model shared a series of images with text overlay sharing her daughter’s name and details about her moniker. “(re)introducing my daughter.” The couple named their daughter Prima Payne. Iskra explained the meaning of her daughter’s name: “Prima means ‘first’ in Italian and ‘best’ in Latin – but for us, it represents being one of a kind.” She also compared her daugther’s moniker to the couple’s first baby, a son named Alpha who was born in April 2020. “Just like her big brother Alpha, her name carries power, meaning, and legacy.”
The model went on to explain more about the connection to her daughter’s name. In Sanskrit, the word Prema translates to ‘love’ or ‘affection.’ While our Prima’s name is spelled differently, it resonates with this beautiful meaning, symbolizing the boundless love we have for her.” She continued by sharing Prima’s familial connection based on her birth date. “In numerology, Prima aligns with the number 3, a number of creativity, self-expression, and joy. It also feels cosmic that she is the third generation of Virgo women in our family – just like her mama and grandma.” The Salt Air founder ended her post with a message of hope for her daughter. “Just like her name, our Prima is strong, unique, and full of light. She was meant to be, and we can’t wait to see the magic she brings into this world.”
In her post, Iskra reflected on why she chose to wait to share her daughter’s name, discussing her experience with her first baby back in 2020. She referenced a video she made in the past about this story, “Maybe you saw video about how I hadn’t planned on sharing my son’s name,” she stared, “but then the media somehow released it and I was robbed of the opportunity of sharing it with the world when we were ready in the way I would have wanted.” This time around, Iskra chose to reclaim “our power as a family and announcing our daughters name with intention because names hold power.” Before announcing her daughter’s name, the model shared a post with names the couple loved but didn’t choose, which included Adira, Annora, Elora, Oak, and Shaylee.
