Actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who has been playing the role of Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC sitcom Modern Family since 2009, has announced that he and his husband, Justin Mikita, are expecting a baby this coming July!
Jesse was featured as a guest last night on The Late Late Show with James Corden alongside fellow actor Charlie Hunnam. James was talking with Charlie about turning 40 this year and turned to Jesse, who is 44, to weigh in on what it’s like reaching this milestone age. While sharing what it feels like reaching 40, Jesse shared, “I’m actually expecting a baby in July with my husband.”
When James asked Jesse whether they knew if they were having a boy or a girl, Jesse simply replied, “We’re having a human.”
The birth of his child will come at a great time in his life. The long-running Modern Family series will be coming to an end this season. Now he will be taking on a new role as dad!
Jesse began dating Justin Mikita, a laywer, in 2010. They became engaged two years later while vacationing in Mexico. Coincidentally, his co-star Sofia Vergara also became engaged to her spouse Joe Manganiello just a few days later.
The couple were wed in July of 2013 in downtown New York. “We wanted to get married in New York, because that’s where it’s legal, so we want to support the state that’s in support of us,” Ferguson told Us. Playwright Tony Kushner officiated the wedding that had nearly 200 guests in attendance, including fellow Modern Family costars Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen.
