Earlier this week, Nicole Phelps officially confirmed that she and Olympian Michael Phelps were adding another baby to their family. In an exclusive interview with TODAY, the model shared details about the couple’s fourth baby, including revealing their sex and discussing potential name ideas.
Michael and Nicole share three children together – all boys – named Boomer, Beckett, and Maverick. The former Miss California shared, “I would have loved to have a daughter for Michael so he could have that father-daughter bond that I experienced growing up. But I strongly believe you’re given what you’re supposed to have,” she added before revealing, “and I’m really excited to have another boy.” Nicole had faced many people sharing their thoughts on the sex of their baby, but she tried not to let it phase her too much. “Sometimes it’s difficult when people say, ‘Oh, you need that girl.’ I’m like, ‘No, I really don’t.'”
As for name choices of baby boy #4, the couple’s sons are set on the name Drifter. “They love the name Drifter. The running joke is that the baby’s name is going to be Drifter.” Nicole went on to share, “The sweetest thing is how genuinely excited the boys are to meet their brother,” she says. “Having four boys will be crazy but wonderful.”
After learning she was pregnant, Nicole admitted that it took her time to process her pregnancy. She recalled, “After I took the test, I came out of the bathroom and Michael asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ He said, I looked like I had seen a ghost.He was ecstatic. Michael has been excited from the start.” She went on to share how she had to approach the news. “Listen, I’m a mom and I know how much work that it takes. I personally believe in pretty much sacrificing two years of my life to this new baby. But we are so excited. I don’t even want to call him a surprise because he is wanted. He’s the bonus we didn’t know we needed.”
