Singer-songwriter Darren Criss has announced that he is going to become a dad! The “for a night like this” singer and his wife, Mia Swier, will be welcoming their first child together in Spring 2022.
To announce the news, Darren leaned into his love for music. The Glee star shared a series of images, the first of which was a picture of him and Mia in a recording studio holding guitars. The second frame was a video of their baby’s heartbeat while the third image was a sonogram image with the words: “Baby Von Criss. Dropping Spring 2022.” Darren captioned the photo by creating a story to go along with each frame. “We’ve been making music for years. … But this time we made a BEAT. The ultimate collab droppin Spring 2022.” In the final piece of the carousel post, the couple sat in front of the recording studio together while they listened to the beat, then turned to the camera where Mia revealed her growing baby bump.
Darren and Mia, a director and producer, first met in 2006 through mutual friends, but they didn’t start dating each other until four years later. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story star announced that he was engaged to Mia in January of 2018, though he admitted at the time that the two had been engaged for quite a while before that.
Just over a year later in February of 2019, the couple tied the knot in New Orleans. Darren and Mia were married in a lavish wedding surrounded by family and friends, including some of Darren’s Glee co-stars Lea Michele, John Stamos, and Harry Shum Jr. Last year in celebration of their one-year wedding anniversary, Darren spoke with People about marriage. “The idea of marriage was not something I gravitated to earlier in life. It’s almost painfully cliché but boys grow up slower. Girl just mature faster. This is science. I am definitely no exception. I will say this: I dragged my feet. But, we were together for a long time before. By that point in our lives, it was a validation and sharing of our life and existence. In many ways, it’s not been a change at all.”
