In January, celebrity couple Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas announced the arrival of their first child. The news came as a shock as the couple had not shared that they were expecting a baby. Now, the name of the couple’s first child has been revealed.

At the time of their announcement, the couple shared in matching statements on their Instagram page, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate.” According to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ, the couple welcomed a daughter on January 15th at 8 AM at a San Diego hospital. The couple chose to name their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Malti is a name that originates from Hindu which means Small Fragrant Flower; Moonlight; A Jasmine Flower.

After the announcement of their child, a source close to the couple spoke with People about Priyanka and Nick becoming parents. “They are beyond excited. Nick and Priyanka have wanted a baby for some time. This is a happy time for all. Nick and Priyanka are definitely ready for this new challenge in their lives. It is something they have both wanted. Now is their time, and they could not be more ready to raise a child.”

Priyanka and Nick, who became friends in 2017, started dating in May of 2018 and became engaged just two months later in July. The couple was married less than six months later in a lavish 3-day celebration that included both Hindu and Christian marriage traditions. The couple recently shared pictures in celebration of Easter but did not include any images of their daughter.

Congratulations again to Priyanka and Nick on the arrival of their daughter Malti! We hope they are enjoying life as new parents.
