NBA played Pau Gasol has welcomed his first child with his wife, Catherine McDonnell. The couple took to Instagram yesterday to share the news of their daughter’s arrival.
They shared that their daughter was born on a very special day for 2 reasons. First, it’s the 2 year anniversary of the day the couple became engaged. Second, it’s the 100th birthday of her great-grandmother Elizabeth – a woman the little one will share a name with! The couple shared they named their daughter Elisabet Gianna Gasol. But the family name isn’t the only special name for this little girl.
Elisabet’s middle name is Gianna, after Kobe Bryant’s daughter who passed away in January along with her father and seven others in a plane crash. Pau and Kobe were close after having played on the LA Lakers together. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife, commented on both Pau’s and Catherine’s post sharing, “Love you 3!!! Congratulations!!”
