Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has added a new member to his family! The sports broadcaster has welcomed his fourth child, his third with his wife Grete Šadeiko. “2023 off to an incredible start.”
The couple announced their pregnancy in July and revealed one month later that they would be welcoming a baby girl. Robert and Grete chose to name their newborn daughter Gia Griffin. Gia is an Italian name that means “God is gracious.”
Gia, who maintains the couple’s naming trend of a moniker beginning with the letter G, is the ESPN commentator’s fourth daughter. The former football star shares daughters Gloria, 5, and Gameya, 2 with the track athlete. Robert shares his 7-year-old daughter Reese Ann with his ex-wife Rebecca Liddicoat. When announcing baby Gia would be a girl, Grete wrote on Instagram, “We are adding another GIRL to our already princess filled family!!💖🥰 What an amazing opportunity to raise strong, beautiful, kind, smart and incredible little girls that will become amazing women❤️ PROFESSIONAL GIRL PARENTS!!!!”
Baby Gia almost arrived earlier than planned. On New Year’s Eve, Robert was covering the Fiesta Bowl between TCU and Michigan for ESPN when he got a call that Grete was going into labor. A video of Robert running off the field during the live show mid-game went viral, but it turned out to be a false alarm. “Baby decided it wasn’t time to come out yet,” Robert later tweeted.

Grete later addressed the false labor by sharing, “First off let’s start by saying that even though baby girl tried to make a dramatic entrance last night into 2023, she decided it wasn’t time yet. Secondly, let’s talk about my husband. I gave him a call in the middle of him being on live TV fully expecting to not get a hold of him but I guess when your wife is 9 months pregnant and calls you you answer the phone no matter what you’re doing huh?😄 All I had to say was the word ‘labor’ and this man STOPPED CALLING A BOWL GAME and took off sprinting to the car to get to the airport and get on a 4 hour flight to make it home.”
