Actress Shay Mitchell has given birth to her second child! The Dollface star confirmed the news at a pop-up event for her brand Béis. The entrepreneur shared an Instagram Story of her at the event with one thing missing… her baby bump!
Shay spoke exclusively with E! News at the event and confirmed that she and her longtime partner Matte Babel welcomed a baby girl. “I recently just had my second child and this is why this is all so much sweeter because this is the first time I’ve actually been outside of the house since having her. It’s really special to come and visit my other baby.”
Following the news, Shay shared a post on her Instagram to make a formal announcement and reveal her daughter’s name. The couple named their daughter Rome, after Shay’s grandmother Romaine, who passed away earlier this year. “We’re so happy you’re here Rome, named after my best friend, my soulmate, my ‘person,’ my Grandma Romaine.” She reflected on the loss of her grandmother in her post writing, “Losing the most important person in my life in the same year I welcomed my second daughter has shifted everything for me, but one thing remains steady in my soul — I’m certain they spent time together and that brings me peace and joy.”
When the Pretty Little Liars alum announced she was pregnant earlier this year, it was right after she revealed the passing of her grandmother. She penned an emotional message about her feelings. “Saying goodbye to a loved one while simultaneously experiencing the joy of welcoming another into this world is the great cycle of life. It is also my most challenging season to date. I can’t help but think this was the universe’s plan all along, knowing I would need otherworldly joy to cushion the blow of losing one of the most important people in my life. Yet, this is proof that love, life, and loss can profoundly exist all at the same time. Gram, I miss you every day. Little one, we are so excited to meet you. I breathe a sigh of peace knowing you two are already connected in such a cosmic way.”
Shay and Matte welcomed their first child together in October 2019, a daughter named Atlas Noa. At her event, Shay also shared with E! News what it’s like parenting with her longtime beau, who she has been dating since 2017. “I think when you find someone who has the same morals as you, it makes parenting a lot easier. It’s definitely a partnership. Finding somebody who has similar morals to you is extremely important.”
