Singer-songwriter Christina Perri took to Instagram today to share some exciting news. Christina and her husband Paul Costabile are welcoming another child! The “Jar of Hearts” pregnancy news comes after the singer has experienced multiple pregnancy losses.
Christina posted an Instagram Reel video that showed the couple’s daughter Carmella Stanley opening a box that held a string of ultrasound pictures. After the ultrasound pictures were taken from the box, Carmella threw pink confetti into the air. It’s a girl! “We’ve been having all the feelings,” Christina wrote in her post, “but mostly trying everyday to choose joy.”
Christina and Paul suffered a devastating loss in November of 2020. In a since-deleted Instagram post that showed the couple holding hands with their baby girl, Christina revealed, “Last night we lost our baby girl. She was born silent after fighting so hard to make it to our world. She is at peace now and will live forever in our hearts.” The couple had named their stillborn daughter Rosie and mentioned their little girl in their pregnancy announcement. “Rosie sent Carmella a little sister and we’re very excited.”
On November 24, 2021, the anniversary of Rosie’s death, the singer released a lullaby album called Songs for Rosie. “I was already planning on making this lullaby album for her, as her big sister Carmella has one too!” Christina wrote in her post announcing the album. “I thought it was especially important to still do it.” She continued her post back in November writing about Rosie’s passing. “Rosie’s short and powerful life already served such a huge purpose in our world, and she has lovingly changed me, paul, and carmella forever. We are more capable of love and compassion than we ever knew we could be. We learned how to hold space for loss and how to navigate unimaginable grief together and music always heals. Releasing these songs for Rosie is so important for our hearts.”
