Soccer player Julie Ertz, who plays for the United States women’s national soccer team, revealed in April that she and her husband, NFL star Zach Ertz, were expecting their first child together. Now, the couple has announced the arrival of their little one!

It’s a boy! The couple welcomed a son on August 11th at 11 AM. He weighed 8.2 lbs and measured 22 inches long at birth. Julie and Zach chose to name their first child Madden Matthew Ertz. “One week already with our sweet boy! Madden Matthew Ertz you are so loved. Beyond grateful to be your mommy. @zachertz and I can’t even put into words how blessed we are to be your parents.”

Julie celebrated her baby shower last June surrounded by family and friends. The event was decked out in all blue for the occasion from varying shades of blue balloons to Julie’s bodycon blue dress that showed off her growing baby bump. “So grateful for all the love this weekend! Thank you to all my friends and family that made it so special!” the World Cup athlete wrote at the time.

The former Chicago Red Stars player and the Arizona Cardinals player met through mutual friends in 2012 through. Zach was playing on Stanford University’s football team at the time while Julie was on the soccer team nearby at Santa Clara. They dated long-distance for a while before Zach moved to Philadelphia to play for the Eagles in 2013. In 2016, Zach asked Julie to marry him and the following year the couple tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony in 2017 in Santa Barbara, California at the Bacara Resort & Spa.

Congratulations to Julie and Zach on the arrival of their first child! We wish them all the best in their new role as parents to baby Madden.
