Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden have welcomed a son! The Swedish Royal Court website shared the official announcement by The Marshal of the Realm. “The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce that HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy child on April 19 at 6.25 p.m. at Danderyd hospital.”
The name of the newest royal family member will be announced within a few days by Prince Carl Philip’s father, King Carl Gustav, at a cabinet meeting, as per royal tradition. The little prince is the first child for the royal couple, and is fifth in line for the throne. According to the Swedish Royal Court website, the Swedish monarchy is one of the oldest in the world. Sweden has had a king for more than a thousand years.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia wed almost a year ago on June 12, 2015 in the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
