Actor and comedian Wayne Brady announced that he would be expanding his role as a dad. The actor’s ex-wife Mandie Taketa welcomed a baby with her boyfriend Jason Fordham. Wayne will be joining Mandie and Jason in co-parenting their little one.
Wayne made the official announcement back in September and has since opened up more about this exciting new journey. Wayne, Mandie, and Jason will be parenting a baby boy named Sundance-Isamu, who will go by the nickname Sunny. “Hey y’all, meet Sunny! I love this little man already,” Wayne shared in his announcement post. The comedian’s new son will call him “Duncle” which merges Daddy and Uncle. “He’s gonna call me Duncle (Daddy/Uncle) because I plan on being around and doing all that stuff.” Wayne shared.
The TV host shared how raising a child takes a village, and referenced how the three raised now 18-year-old Maīle Brady together. “They say it takes a village to raise a child and they’re right! The village of @mandietaketa, myself, and @jasonmichaelfordham raised @theofficialmailebrady. All children will know is love if that’s what you show them. I’m honored to be in his life as his ‘Duncle’ and I love Mandie and Jason for including me in their journey.”
Mandie shared an Instagram video to announce the news that expanding on their adoption story, which included revealing that the couple were close with Sunny’s birth mom Ana. “Ana invited us into her heart & asked us to parent Sunny. We encourage anyone in the process of adoption that you seek the stories of birth mothers and adoptees. Listen to them. Put them first. It’s imperative to understand this is a traumatic experience for them & it’s a privilege to be a part of THEIR lives. Ana, thank you for making me a mommy again along with you. Thank you for blessing Jason with the gift of fatherhood, making Maile a big sister, & Wayne a godfather. He’s going to spoil Sunny like crazy! Huge mahalo for our social media family for the most loving energy in the world. Our hearts are overflowing with love & gratitude.”
