WNBA star Napheesa Collier has revealed that she is expecting her first child! Forward for the Minnesota Lynx and her fiancé Alex Bazzell, NBA and WNBA skills coach, shared the news exclusively with People and announced even more news: their baby’s gender!

To share the news, Napheesa posted a series of images on her Instagram page, the first of which was a nod to the couple’s basketball careers. The image, taken on a basketball court, featured an official WNBA ball, white basketball shoes, and a letterboard with a sonogram picture that read: “Newest Teammate May ’22.” The remainder of the photos in the carousel were from the couple’s gender reveal party with family and friends. They used a cake to announce the news: it’s a girl! “Excited to welcome baby girl into the world in 2022!” Napheesa wrote in her caption.

In speaking with People about their exciting news, Napheesa revealed “I have always wanted to be a mom.” Alex shared his own post announcing the news with some of the same images that Napheesa used in her announcement. He captioned his post, “@napheesa24 & I are excited to welcome a baby girl in 2022! We’re looking forward to the next stage of life as parents. #girldad”

Napheesa first met Alex when she was in her senior year of high school. Soon after, he became her full-time trainer during her freshman year as an athlete at the University of Connecticut. The couple started dating two years later during her junior year. In October of 2019, they became engaged. Alex popped the question in New York City’s famous Central Park. “Forever with my best friend,” Napheesa wrote on Instagram when she announced the news.

Congratulations to Napheesa and Alex on the news of their baby girl! We wish them all the best as they prepare to embark on the journey of parenthood together.
