Hello Jennifer!

I want to ask you about a name from my family history. My however many greats grandmother’s name was Alvie Etta. I’ve also seen it spelled Alvietta. I love the way it sounds and I was wandering what it meant. For context: she lived in Texas in the late 1800’s.

Thanks, Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth,

Alvie was a diminutive, feminized version of the name Alvin, which means “Noble Warrior.”

Etta is a diminutive, feminized suffix applied to names.

Sincerely,

Jennifer
