Singer-songwriter Darren Criss has announced the arrival of his first child with his wife Mia Swier. Darren and Mia, a director and producer, welcomed their little one on April 11th and the couple shared the musical name they chose for their newborn.
It’s a girl! The couple, who both love music, opted to name their daughter Bluesy Belle Criss. “M & D made some sweet music,” Darren wrote in his caption.
This isn’t the first time the couple has leaned into their love for music to make a special announcement. When the Glee alum revealed Mia was pregnant, he shared a series of images that were music-themed, from holding guitars to a video with the baby’s heartbeat in their recording studio. “We’ve been making music for years,” he wrote at the time, “But this time we made a BEAT. The ultimate collab droppin Spring 2022.”
The couple first met through mutual friends 2006, but it took four years for them to begin a romantic relationship. The “for a night like this” singer announced in January of 2018 that they were engaged. It’s unclear when the proposal took place, but Darren did share at the time that they had been engaged for a while when he announced it. They tied the knot in February 2019 in a lavish ceremony in New Orleans.
While promoting his current Broadway show American Buffalo, Darren opened up about how excited he was about his show while getting ready to welcome a baby. “Life abounds. Much to celebrate, much to be grateful for, giving life to many things. This play, an actual life. So, the circumstances around it are very fortuitous, and the poetry of it is not lost on me. I’m very pleased to be bringing life into the world, given these circumstances. It’s a true Broadway baby.”
Congratulations to Darren and Mia on the arrival of their baby girl! We wish them all the best as they enjoy life as new parents.
