Musician Michael Clifford is growing his family! The guitarist for the band 5 Seconds of Summer has announced that his wife Crystal Leigh Lauderdale is pregnant with the couple’s first baby. “You’re already everything.”
Michael and Crystal, who tied the knot in January 2021, shared the news on Instagram with photos showing off Crystal’s growing baby bump and sonogram images. Their first child is due on November 11th of this year. In speaking with PEOPLE about the news, Michael shared how having pets has been a nice soft launch into fatherhood. “I’m filled with excitement and also with nerves. I’ve been a dog dad for a long time, so I think I’m ready for a small human to take care of and communicate with conversationally after eight years of one-sided dog convos!”
Crystal echoed her husband’s sentiments in speaking with the news outlet sharing, “I’m over the moon!! Completely overflowing with joy, I have never been this happy in my entire life. I’d like to think it’s the baby’s good vibes and energy radiating through me, but it’s probably just the hormones.” The social strategist and talent manager also discussed how her pregnancy is going so far. “We have friends who have had incredibly difficult pregnancies, so I was prepared for the worst. But so far, it’s actually been pretty great and I feel very fortunate and high with happiness!!”
Crystal did admit that they hit a snag early on in her pregnancy. “We did have a small complication in the beginning, a subchorionic hematoma. It caused a lot of bleeding, which was absolutely terrifying. We raced to the doctor on Easter when it happened, but thankfully our baby was okay.” Now, Crystal has been dealing with some insomnia but shares that Michael is extremely supportive of everything she’s experiencing. “The one other thing that’s been consistently torturous for me throughout though has been sleeping! I’m a total insomniac now, I wake up 10-15 times throughout the night, no joke. Michael has been such an incredible partner through it all though, I really do feel like we are pregnant together.”
