Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Princess Beatrice is expecting her first child with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi! Princess Beatrice is the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Her sister Princess Eugenie recently welcomed her first child in February, a son named August.
Buckingham Palace shared the announcement was made in a simple statement this morning. The statement read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
The news comes on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s third wedding anniversary. They are also expecting a baby of their own, a girl to arrive this summer. Princess Beatrice’s child will be Queen Elizabeth’s 12th great-grandchild after the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan’s daughter.
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony last July. A small group of around 20 close friends and family, including the Queen and Prince Philip, were in attendance to catch sight of Beatrice walking down the aisle at the private ceremony, which had to be rescheduled from its original May 29th date due to the coronavirus pandemic. In accordance with government guidelines due to the pandemic, no hymns were sung, but the couple’s mothers read two of the couple’s favorite poems, Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare and “I Carry Your Heart with Me” by American poet E.E. Cummings.
Princess Beatrice became a stepmother after the nuptials to Edorado’s son Christopher Woolf, known as “Wolfie,” whom Edoardo shares from a previous relationship with American architect and designer Dara Huang. This marked the first time that a member of the British royal family stepped into the position of stepmother since Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall married Prince Charles in 2005.
Congratulations to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo! We wish them all the best as they prepare to welcome their first child together.
