Tesla founder Elon Musk and Canadian singer Grimes have secretly welcomed their second child together. The “Shinigami Eyes” singer revealed the news to Vanity Fair for the magazine’s April 2022 issue cover story.

Grimes revealed that she and Elon welcomed a daughter via surrogate in December of last year. The couple named their daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, but she will go by the nickname Y. The singer went into detail about the unusual name the couple chose sharing that Exa refers to a supercomputing term, exaFLOPS. The name Dark represents “the unknown” and Grimes further explained, “People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”

The third name of Sideræl is pronounced sigh-deer-ee-el. Grimes described the word as “a more elven” spelling of sidereal, which she defined as “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time.” The name has a double meaning as a representation of Grimes’ favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel, who “chooses to abdicate the ring.”

Grimes also revealed the name she was fighting for when she and Elon were choosing names. She wanted to name her daughter Odysseus Musk because “a girl named Odysseus is my dream.”

While the couple have chosen a unique name for their daughter, it’s nothing compared to what the couple named their first child. Grimes and Elon welcomed a son in 2020 and named him X Æ A-Xii. At the time, Grimes went into detail about her child’s name sharing that, “X, the unknown variable Crossed swords. Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence). A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent. + (A=Archangel, my favorite song).” Originally, the couple’s son was named X Æ A-12 but due to the California state constitution’s restriction of only using the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language, the couple changed the 12 to Roman numerals.

Back in September 2021, the couple revealed they had split up after three years together. However, during her interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed the couple was back together, but in an untraditional faction. “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time. We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it. This is the best it’s ever been. We just need to be free.”

She also revealed that Y may not be the couple’s last child. “We’ve always wanted at least three or four.” Congratulations to Grimes and Elon on the arrival of their second child!
