Journalist Kristen Welker has added another bundle of joy to her family! The Meet the Press moderator and her husband John Hughes have announced the arrival of their second baby together, born via surrogate. “The Meet the Press family officially has a new member!”
In an announcement jointly shared by Meet the Press and the journalist, the couple revealed they welcomed their new family member on May 30th. Kristen announced just last month that she and John were growing their family and revealed at the time that they were expecting a baby boy. Kristen and John chose to name their son John Zachary Welker Hughes. John weighed 7 pounds and measured almsot 20 inches long at birth.
John joins the family with one sibling. Kristen and John welcomed their first baby via surrogate in June 2021, a daughter named Margot Lane. According to the report from NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Peter Alexander on today’s episode of Meet the Press, Margot is “extremely proud” to be a big sister. When announcing her pregnancy, Kristen shared how excited Margot was to become a big sister. “Margot has told all of her schoolmates that her parents are getting her a baby brother for her birthday!” Margot’s birthday is June 12th, so her baby brother arrived just ahead of her third birthday.
Kristen struggled with infertility for 2 years and learned she is unable to carry a child, so the couple has welcomed both of their children via surrogate. However, they did not use the same person for both children. The surrogate for Margo was pregnant with her own baby. “She’s still very much a part of our lives,” Kristen explained last month, “and even reached out to our new surrogate Angelica. We’ve become like this little family.” The journalist has shared that Angelica is a “literal angel on earth.”
Congratulations to Kristen and John on the arrival of their second baby!
