Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps is a father of four! The athlete and his wife Nicole, the former Miss California, have announced the arrival of their fourth baby together. “We’re so blessed to be given a 4th child.”
Michael and Nicole welcomed a baby boy on January 16th. They revealed their baby’s sex in November, one week before confirming Nicole was pregnant. In a joint Instagram post, the couple shared an image of the Gold Medalist holding the newborn as he and his wife gazed down at their little one. The couple chose to name their fourth son Nico Michael Phelps. The name appears to be a nod to both of his parents.
Michael and Nicole, who recently celebrated 7 years of marriage, share three sons together: Boomer, 7, Beckett, 5, and Maverick, 4. When revealing baby Nico’s sex at the end of last year, Nicole opened up about about the possibility of welcoming a baby girl and her thoughts on having all boys. “I would have loved to have a daughter for Michael so he could have that father-daughter bond that I experienced growing up,” she began in an interview with TODAY, “But I strongly believe you’re given what you’re supposed to have and I’m really excited to have another boy.” She went on to admit, “Sometimes it’s difficult when people say, ‘Oh, you need that girl.’ I’m like, ‘No, I really don’t.'”
At the time, Nicole also shared that her sons had a name planned out for their new baby brother. “They love the name Drifter. The running joke is that the baby’s name is going to be Drifter.” The new mom-of-four went on to discuss how excited her kids are for their new brother and reflected on what she expected life to be like with a house full of boys. “The sweetest thing is how genuinely excited the boys are to meet their brother. Having four boys will be crazy but wonderful.”
Congratulations to Michael and Nicole on the birth of their fourth baby! We wish them lots of love welcoming baby Nico into the Phelps family.
