Earlier this week, news broke that tennis superstar Naomi Osaka had welcomed her first baby with her partner, rapper Cordae. The four-time Grand Slam champion confirmed the news with an Instagram post but didn’t reveal details about her newborn. However, the “Doomsday” rapper shared the news of his daughter’s birth on stage and revealed her name.
Naomi and Cordae named their first baby Shai. In a video tweeted by a fan, Cordae was on stage sharing with the crowd, “Y’all are part of my family. And speaking of family, my daughter Shai was just born a couple of days ago.” The crowd erupted in applause and cheers for the rapper before he continued, “So I want to dedicate this performance to my baby girl Shai. Love you.” In April, the tennis player had discussed with PEOPLE how the couple were choosing a name for their baby, “We have been discussing names. I would say that we are going for something more unique than traditional.”

When posting about her daugther on her Instagram page, Naomi shared a few shots that didn’t reveal her little one’s face. The first image showed Shai lying in Naomi’s lap while wearing an apporpriate tennis sleeper. Another image showed Naomi in the hospital around the time she gave birth to her first baby. She captioned the post, “Well that was a cool little intermission, now back to your regularly scheduled program.”
Congratulations again to Naomi and Cordae on the arrival of their newborn! We wish them lots of love as they embrace their new lives as parents to baby Shai.
