Last month, United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced that he and his husband Chasten grew their family. He did not share any further details about this news – until now!
The former presidential candidate shared a black and white photo of his new family which not only revealed that the two became parents, but revealed that Pete and Chasten welcomed twins! “Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents,” Pete wrote in the caption, that featured the new dads each holding a baby while smiling proudly at each other. He revealed that they had girl-boy twins named Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg.
Pete’s son Joseph is likely named after Pete’s father of that same name. He was a Notre Dame professor and died shortly after Pete announced his exploratory campaign for president in 2019.
Pete and Chasten on a dating app met in 2015. The couple tied the knot in 2018 at an Episcopal church in South Bend, where they included a reading from the 2015 Supreme Court case that made same-sex marriage legal across the US in their ceremony. Pete made history in February of this year when he became the first openly gay, Senate-confirmed Cabinet member. Chasten stood by his side as he was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris.
Congratulations to Pete and Chasten on the arrival of their twin babies! We wish them all the best as they embark on this new journey as fathers.
