Actor Tom Payne has grown his family! The Walking Dead star and his wife Jennifer Åkerman have announced the arrival of not one but two babies. It’s identical twins! The couple confirmed the news exclusively in an interview with PEOPLE.
In a joint statement, the couple shared, “We are overjoyed to share the news that on April 1st, 2024, we welcomed twins into our family! An entirely unexpected and wonderful surprise.” Tom and Jennifer share one other baby together, a son named Harrison who was born in January 2022. On being a big brother the couple shared, “Harrison is over the moon to have not one but two new siblings.” The Prodigal Son star shared, “Jennifer and I have joked that he had something to do with this because there’s nothing he likes more than a house full of people.” The sex and names of the couple’s twins were not shared.
In addition to their baby news, the couple revealed they have started a podcast together: California Dreamin’. “We’re excited to share our journey (from the moment we found out we were having twins, to their unique birth and beyond) in our new podcast California Dreamin’. We’ll be talking about our life in LA and how we now juggle our careers with three kids!” the couple explained in their interview. In the debut episode of their podcast, they shared how they learned they were having twins and that twins don’t run in either of their families. “We discovered we are having twins so that changed our perspective on pretty much everything. It’s going to be a very unique journey for our whole family which I’m really excited for.”
Tom and Jennifer began dating in 2013 and got engaged in 2018. The couple was set to tied the knot in April 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed their plans. The two went on to get married in December 2020 in a small wedding at their house. At the time, Jennifer shared on Instagram, “After having to cancel our wedding back in April and not knowing how long the world will be under lockdown, we felt like we still wanted to end this year as husband and wife, so we did.” In 2022, they had a lavish wedding in New York City where they exchanged vows for a second time.
