Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba is a mom! The actress has announced the arrival of her first baby with her husband Robert Sweeting. “Motherhood. I’ve joined the club. I hear the dues are high, but the membership is completely worth it.”
To announce her little one’s arrival, Uzo shared two images from the hospital, the first showing the actress in bed with her newborn lying on her chest and the second image – in black and white – with the baby’s feet on her mother’s hand. The Lightyear star and her husband had a baby girl and chose to name her Adaiba Lee Nonyem. Of her daughter’s names, she wrote, “Daughter of the people, treasurer of the mother’s names who came before you.” Nonyem, which is an African – Igbo name that means stay with me, is Uzo’s mother’s name.
The Painkiller star gushed about becoming a mother in her announcement writing, “My daughter. I’ve never been in love so quickly, so deeply in my entire life. I really don’t know what to say, guys. My heart is full. Thank you, God. I have joy like a fountain. I have witnessed a miraculous thing, and I feel blessed to know you are ours. We love you so much.”
Uzo announced in June that she would become a mother sharing, “My husband Robert and I are so happy to enter this next chapter together as parents.” The actress and her husband quietly married in New York City in 2020 but kept the news a secret until September 2021. On their anniversary this year, Uzo celebrated the occasion on Instagram writing, “Our Anniversary. This is from our Traditional Nigerian Wedding Ceremony(Igba Nkwu). This day meant so much to us. You have made my entire life better, more full. I am so thankful our souls found each other. I’ve loved sharing every step of this journey with you, @robertsweetinglife and cannot wait to experience new chapters, next chapters, new pathways with you. I love you so much. Thank you also for loving me. So much.”
