Los Angeles Rams player Van Jefferson had the night of his life earlier this month. On February 13th, his team won Super Bowl LVI and his wife Samaria gave birth to their second child! Now, the wide receiver has revealed the appropriate name he and Samaria gave to their son.
In an interview with People, Van revealed the name of his son: Champ Curtis Jefferson. “It’s very fitting,” he shared with the magazine. “That’s very fitting for the type of situation we just had. Champ has a meaning of warrior, and I’m all about having meaning [in] a name, so I think that’s a perfect fitting for him.”
Van also shared that the name has meaning for Samaria as well. “Even coming to the game leaving at half time, so she has that warrior spirit, so we just thought it was fitting for him to have that same thing.” Samaria went into labor during the Super Bowl. She was adamant about being at the game but had to be taken from SoFi Stadium in a stretcher to the hospital to give birth. She had previously told the Rams support staff not to let Van know if she went into labor so he was able to finish the game. After Van’s team won, he raced to the hospital. Van watched the birth of his son on FaceTime while traveling to the hospital.
Van and Samaira are high school sweethearts. They welcomed their first child, daughter Bella, 5, in 2016. The couple broke up for a period of time after Bella was born, and the football star welcomed a son in the meantime who recently turned 4. Van and Samaria rekindled their relationship and have since tied the knot, but little is known about their nuptials.
Congratulations to Van on the arrival of baby Champ and on his Super Bowl win! We wish him and his family lots of love during this very exciting time.
