Actress Katharine McPhee welcomed her first child with her husband David Foster last month. Now, she’s revealing the name they chose for their first child together!

Katharine shared the news exclusively on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna during her guest appearance to be aired this Friday. “OK, well, his name, we haven’t said anything. My husband probably will kill me for saying it, but his name is Rennie David Foster,” Katharine shared. Rennie is an English name that means “Brave Ruler,” while David, a name he shares with his father, is a Hebrew name that means “Beloved.”

Katharine shared that she and David hadn’t picked a name during her pregnancy. “We picked Rennie ‘cause I’d actually been in labor for a while. We didn’t have a name picked out. “We had a couple [of] names, but my husband was on a text chain with his sisters and one of his sisters suggested an old family name. It was his great-grandfather’s name, his great-uncle’s name, so it has a long history in his family. My husband said, ‘Hi, Ren Foster,’ and so we said, ‘That’s a good name. It’s a strong name.’”

The former American Idol contestant also shared during her interview what this new role has been like for her. “Oh my gosh. It’s the sweetest. It’s just the best. I mean, I’m in heaven. It’s really been amazing.”

Rennie is David’s first child he’s welcomed in thirty years. He has five adult daughters. With his second wife Rebecca Dyer, he shares three daughters, Sara, 39, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34. He has two older daughters from previous relationships, Allison, 50, and Amy, 46.

Congratulations again to Katharine and David on welcoming Rennie into the world!
